CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – South Carolina men’s tennis completed play in The Chowder Fest at Harvard Sunday afternoon. The Gamecocks scored a pair of singles victories, including Ivan Machado’s win over No. 48 Sebastian Gallego of Minnesota.

For the second time in the event, it was Machado that set the tone as he faced the nation’s 48th-ranked player in Flight 1 singles action. After claiming the first set 6-4 from Gallego, Machado was pushed to the limit as the second set went to a tiebreaker. The Gamecocks’ Brazilian won the battle to earn his second win over a nationally-ranked player this season.

South Carolina freshman Jake Bowling earned his first singles win of the tournament, fighting past Minnesota’s Derek Peterson 6-4, 6-2. Bowling was also involved in the Gamecocks’ best chance at a doubles victory, teaming with Henry Walker. The duo gave Harvard’s Casey MacMaster and Brandon Seaver all they could handle with the match decided by a late service break that gave the Crimson tandem a 9-7 win.

The Gamecocks take a week to regroup before heading to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the ITA Carolina Regional Oct. 14-17.
