COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team finds itself ranked in the first Women’s Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll of the 2010 season. The Gamecocks (2-1) are currently ranked fourth in the first bi-monthly poll of the season.
The Gamecocks opened the season with an 8-4 win over SMU on Sept. 24, followed by a 12-7 win over South Dakota State on Sept. 25. South Carolina’s only loss came at the hands of Auburn, which is currently tied for second place in the poll. The Gamecocks rode Auburn to a 10-10 tie at the end of the competition, but the Tigers prevailed on the raw score tiebreaker, winning by three raw score points.
South Carolina has two competitions remaining this fall, both on the road. The Gamecocks travel to Bishop, Ga. Oct. 23, to compete against the top-ranked Bulldogs. South Carolina closes out its all competition schedule Oct. 29, when the Gamecocks travel to Manhattan, KS to compete against No. 6 Kansas State.
