South Carolina vs. Florida (May 22, 2010)

Post Game Quotes – Head Coach Ray Tanner

On today’s game…

I try not to let the players know how I actually felt, but I really wanted to get a “W.” We needed a win. We needed to win to feel better. We needed a win to have a little momentum going into the tournament. I am glad we were able to do that. Jay Brown gave us a quality start. They made it interesting, but we hung on.

I played today’s game like it was for the title. We needed to win. This is college baseball, where every game is crucial, whether it is midweek games or a weekend in the SEC.

On Adam Matthews batting third…

He’s a nice player. He plays hard. He comes to the park everyday ready to go. I just threw him in the three-hole today to mix it up a little bit. He squared up some balls the last two days, and I just threw him in there to have him be who he is in the three-spot.

On Bobby Haney…

Bobby has done a nice job in this program in this program for two years defensively. He made a run at the end of the year [offensively] last year, and he has made another run this year. He has a little pride in his offense. He has started to now get a few hits, and I am happy for him. He has worked at it. He has spent a little more time in trying to be more productive for us down the stretch.
