COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman sprinter Sanura Eley-O’Reilly has been named the SEC Female Freshman of the Week after winning the 400-meter dash and helping the 1,600-meter relay team take second last week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Eley-O’Reilly ran one of the top times in the nation at the Hokie Invitational to vault her up the list as a legitimate contender for the SEC crown as a freshman. She won the 400m in a crowded field of ACC and SEC competitors with a time of 54.99. Her race is the seventh- fastest time in the SEC this year and third-fastest in the NCAA for a freshman. Eley-O’Reilly went on to run the anchor leg of South Carolina 4x400m relay team that placed second overall and improved its season opening time by three seconds to 3:41.66.

South Carolina hosts the Gamecock Indoor Open Wednesday afternoon before traveling to Texas A&M this weekend.
