FORT MYERS, Fla. – Behind freshman Julie Sarratt’s second career shutout and sophomore shortstop Samie Garcia’s first Gamecock home run propelled South Carolina (6-3) past Florida Gulf Coast (3-6), 2-0, in the final game of Saturday’s slate at the Homewood Suites/Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Tournament.

Sarratt (2-0) struck out nine in the complete game, walking four while allowing just two hits. She once again tried to help her own cause, with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, the only Gamecock to post two hits.

Garcia provided all the offense the Gamecocks needed in the sixth inning when she hit the 0-1 pitch over the right-field wall for her home run, the first of her Gamecock career. Senior P.J. Fulmer helped South Carolina add an insurance run with her seventh-inning single, which plated junior leftfielder Kaitlin Westfall from second.

Sophomore rightfielder Hannah Milks kept up her stellar play, making a pair of catches to wrap out the sixth inning. The second out of the inning saw Milks make a catch near the fence and almost catch the runner off the first-base bag. With the double play not an option, Milks made the outstanding grab of the game with a diving catch in foul territory, tumbling over in the bullpen area as she made the grab.

The Gamecocks close out their stay in Fort Myers with a 1:30 p.m. contest against Michigan State.
