COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lakya Brookins from the women’s track and field team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Lakya Brookins became the first woman to win back-to-back SEC 60-meter titles in SEC history after taking gold Sunday afternoon. Her time of 7.14 is the collegiate leader and third-fastest time run in the world this year.

Brookins has now run 10 consecutive NCAA automatic qualifying times this season and gave South Carolina its only gold medal of the 2011 SEC Indoor Championships. She will run at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 11 in a bid to earn her second career NCAA title.
