Opening Statement
I am very happy to be able to win our first series especially after loosing the opener. I thought our guys battled hard and played hard. Forrest Koumas got some big outs for us, John Taylor was also stellar for us.
On the Sunday starting pitcher
I think that’s fair to say, we haven’t had anybody make a loud enough statement for that Sunday job. (Steven) Neff made a statement for the Saturday job yesterday. We’ve got some guys who are capable but they haven’t been able to make it happen yet.
On pitching staff
Well the good news is John Taylor is very resilient, he can pitch even when he has thrown to many pitches. He said `I can go as long as you want to leave me out there.’ John Taylor held them at bay until we went to Matt Price and Price was really good as well today.
On Evan Marzilli
He is a guy that when you look at the numbers your talking about a guy who is a student of the game, nobody out works him. He has been fouling those balls back, you know when you get a pitch to hit, and you’ve got to hit it because you don’t always get the pitch you want. Just one swing of the bat can changes things for a player.
On Koumas’ ability to be a weekend pitcher
I think he (Forrest Koumas) might have helped him self a little bit, there still command issues there, sometimes he doesn’t communicate well with the catcher. He’s got the ability to be an outstanding pitcher in this league. We’ve got to continue to help him grow and get better, in order to be a weekend guy he’s got to get rid of the walks.
Right Fielder Adam Matthews
On the first conference series
This team, we fight hard, we show up together everyday. We struggled a little bit Friday, but we came out Saturday knowing that, we have the confidence that we are going to come out every day and compete and have a good game
Pitcher John Taylor
On Adam Westmoreland’s start today
I mean he will bounce back and Coach Meyers talked about getting into a battle of the bullpens yesterday and said that he thought that we could out perform theirs, and that’s pretty much what we did today, everybody chipped in and did their job.
On Matt Price starting on Sundays
I’ve seen him (Matt Price) start just playing against him in high school. I think that our bullpen has got a lot of depth and we’ll find a way to make it work. That’s going to be the coaches decision, if he’s going to start or not, but I think we’re pretty solid now and as long as things keep going well, we will probably stay where we are at.
First Baseman Christian Walker
On first conference series
As far as the first game conference jitters, it is expected, SEC play is always going to be tough, no matter who you’re playing. Thankfully our pitching staff held it together and didn’t give up many runs there at all so that kept us in the game.
On his walk up song (Fresh Prince of Bel Air)
I mean apparently the people love it; they are dancing and doing all that stuff. Its fun, you’ve got to get the crowd involved. It’s fun to get some feedback on that kind of stuff.
On the series against Florida next weekend
We aren’t really concerned about rankings too much, we know where we stand as far as playing other SEC teams. We’re just going to take it one game at a time, we aren’t going to look forward, and we aren’t going to look past anyone.
Pitcher Matt Price
On the chemistry of the bullpen
Our bullpens always gelled, it just converted over to this year, and we have got a bunch of team chemistry.
On possibility of starting on Sundays
I know the bullpen, we’re very deep, we’ve got Taylor, Harper, if I was to start on Sunday I know they would have my back, just like I would close out a game on Friday for Roth.
