COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Central Arizona College guard Sancheon White has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. She will have two years of eligibility beginning with the 2011-12 academic year.

“Sancheon brings a great basketball mind to our program and is a tremendous athlete,” Staley said. “She adds much needed size and experience to our perimeter game. We are fortunate to have her become a part of our Gamecock family.”

White, a 5-foot-11 guard, helped the Central Arizona to the NJCAA Region I championship and a tie for first in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) in 2010-11. A first-team NJCAA All-Region I and All-ACCAC selection, White averaged 12.5 points and 2.1 steals last season. As a freshman in 2009-10, she turned in 11.4 ppg and 2.6 spg as CAC posted a 30-4 overall record. Prior to attending Central Arizona, White attended Hammond (Ind.) High and in 2009 ranked among the state’s Top 60 Seniors by Hoosier Basketball Magazine and was an honorable mention All-State selection by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

White joins a signing class that in the fall was ranked No. 12th in the nation by Blue Star Basketball and 23rd by ESPN HoopGurlz. The group includes three incoming freshmen – Elem Ibiam (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County), Tina Roy (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) and Aleighsa Welch (Goose Creek, S.C./Goose Creek).
