COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the second straight year, South Carolina rising junior golfer Amanda Strang will compete for her home country of Sweden in the 2011 European Ladies Amateur Team Championship, the Swedish Golf Federation announced this week.

Sweden is the defending champion of the event, which takes place July 5-9 at GC Murhof in Graz, Austria. Strang was part of the team that captured last year’s title for Sweden in Cartagena, Spain.

She will be joined by Tennessee’s Nathalie Mansson, who was also on the winning Swedish side in 2010. The Southeastern Conference will be well-represented by the Swedes; also competing for Sweden will be LSU incoming freshman Madelene Sagstrom and Alabama signee Johanna Tillstrom. Daniela Holmqvist (California) and Josephine Janson (Oklahoma State) will round out the Swedish National Team.

Strang, a native of Jonstorp, Sweden, competed in all 11 tournaments for the Gamecocks this season, finishing with a stroke average of 77.29. She has never missed a tournament in two years for South Carolina, amassing a 76.51 stroke average in her two years at Carolina, which ranks seventh in school history. Her biggest contribution to the team this year was a final-round 69 (-3) at the SEC Championships, helping the Gamecocks to their fifth-best 18-hole team score in school history (287) and a fifth-place finish, giving the team major momentum heading into the postseason. The team finished 18th at the NCAA Championship last month.
