Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina left-handed pitcher Michael Roth, sophomore right-handed pitcher Matt Price and sophomore first baseman Christian Walker all picked up All-America accolades as teams were announced by Baseball America and the NCBWA on Wednesday morning. Roth earned first-team honors from Baseball America as well as second-team honors from the NCBWA with Price a second-team choice by both and Walker a third-team selection by Baseball America.

Roth is 13-3 with a 1.02 ERA on the year with six of his wins coming in SEC play. His 1.17 conference ERA was the best mark in the SEC as well. Roth’s 13 victories matches four other Gamecocks for the seventh highest single season mark in victories including Blake Cooper, who notched 13 wins in an All-America season last year for Carolina. He sits four victories behind the school record.

Roth is 2-0 in the 2011 postseason. He did not allow an earned run in 8.1 innings and yielded just six hits and one unearned run as South Carolina defeated Connecticut 5-1 in game one of the NCAA Super Regional for his 13th win of the season. The week before in the NCAA Regional, Roth hurled seven innings and allowed just one unearned run as South Carolina defeated Georgia Southern 2-1 as Roth earned All-Tournament Team accolades. He also earned All-Tournament Team honors at the SEC Tournament, hurling his the first complete game by a Gamecock this year in the 7-3 win over Auburn. It marked Roth’s second career complete game as well.

For the season, Price owns a 5-3 record and 18 saves for the 2011 season. This is the second straight year Price has earned all-conference accolades as he was a second-team choice as a freshman in 2010. Price has struck out 67 batters in 50 innings and opponents are hitting only .205 against him.

He finished a league-high 17 SEC games with five victories and nine saves in those conference tilts. His 1.71 ERA was second best among all SEC pitchers in SEC games also.

Walker is in the midst of a strong sophomore campaign as he leads the Gamecocks with a .359 batting average (89-for-248) as well as a team-high 10 HR and 60 RBI. His .560 slugging percentage also tops the squad. Walker is one of two Gamecocks this year to start all 64 games. In addition, Walker hit .316 (37-for-117) in 30 SEC games and had eight doubles, a pair of homers and 24 RBI vs. conference teams. One of the top sophomores in the country, Walker has been selected to the 22-man roster for the 2011 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team as well.
