GREENVILLE, S.C. — Heavy rain at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., on Friday forced the host Paladins to use their indoor courts and only doubles mataches were played. The South Carolina women’s tennis team came away with five victories on the day.
The Gamecocks’ top finishers were Dominika Kanakova and Anya Morgina in flight two, taking third place. They defeated Furman’s duo of Boyette and Murray 8-5 in the first round before suffering an 8-6 loss to Antal and Preeg of Vanderbilt in the semifinals. Morgina and Kanakova upended Guarachi and Foehse from Alabama 8-2 in their final match for third place in the flight.
Jaklin Alawi and Dijana Stojic registered an 8-3 win over the 27th-ranked tandem of McLane and Lindsey from Alabama in their first-round match in flight one before falling 8-6 to the nation’s No. 1-ranked team of Bek and Wong from Clemson. Alawi and Stojic finished fourth after losing 9-7 to No. 22-ranked Pluskota and Henderson of Tennessee.
Josefin Andersson and Katerina Popova took sixth place in flight two, while Adriana Pereira and Dina Guzairova finished seventh in flight three. Stephanie Cox and Lindsey Main lost their one match in flight four.
