BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – No. 4 South Carolina fell, 11-9, to the visiting third-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Friday at One Wood Farm. The Gamecocks are now 3-3 on the season while Georgia improves to 3-1.
In Hunt Seat action, the Gamecocks and Bulldogs each tallied five points, but Carolina prevailed on raw scores, 823-811.5
In Equitation on the Flat, Kimberly McCormack earned MVP honors as she won her ride, 85-73. Senior captain Colvin Hedgepeth won her ride, 84-79 as the Gamecocks won two of three points.
In Equitation Over Fences, the Gamecocks stormed back, winning three of five points. Senior Paige Dekko scored an 18-point victory over her Bulldog opponent. Junior Carolyn Curcio and freshman Amber Henter also won their rides on Friday. Georgia’s Carly Anthony, sister of Gamecock freshman Alexa Anthony, was named MVP.
In Western action, the Gamecocks fell, 6-4.
In Horsemanship, senior captain Maggie Fortune picked up a 75.5-73.5 victory over Georgia’s Anna Sasser. Freshman Sam Chiodo improved to 2-1 on the season with a 75-74.5 victory over the Bulldogs’ Maria Salazar. Georgia’s Megan Hawkins was named MVP as she scored an event-high 76.
Georgia held an 8-7 lead as Reining began, but the Gamecocks tied it at 8-8 when senior Annie McDonald won her first point of the season in a 65.5-65 decision. The Bulldogs went on to claim the next three points, securing their first regular season victory over South Carolina since Oct. 23, 2010. Freshman Cody McMillion, competing in her second competition as a Gamecock, improved to 2-0 while earning MVP honors for her event-high score of 72.
The Gamecocks return to action on January 29 when they host Oklahoma State at One Wood Farm. It will be the first of three spring competitions at home for Carolina.
