After reading the feature, you can see how closely senior outfielders Lauren Lackey and Kaitlin Westfall know each other here. Who knows who better? Let’s find out!
Lauren Lackey (with Westfall’s answers below, correct in green, incorrect in red)
1. What is your favorite thing about playing softball at South Carolina?
The opportunity to play at a big school and in the SEC. To be able to see a bunch of different places on the east coast that I haven’t been to because I am from California.
Me, just kidding. I would say having a home away from home since she is across country here. I would say having a family here and feeling comfortable.
2. What is the one thing you can’t leave without on a road trip?
I would say my phone because it is also my iPod.
She always has a snack pack, but now it could possibly be her Mater pillow pet.
3. What is the best memory you have about playing softball at South Carolina?
My first game that I got to play. Putting the uniform on and coming out and playing my first game, it was kind of surreal. It was cool.
I think she got a hit of the pro team last year so maybe that, or I would say (the 2009 wins over) Alabama.
4. What is the thing you have worked most on to prepare for this season?
To have more options at the plate, to be able to hit for power or to be able to bunt for a base hit. Just to have more options so the defense doesn’t know what I am going to do when I come up to hit.
Maybe it would be bunting.
5. What is your biggest goal for this season?
I would say to have a high on-base percentage, getting on base anyway I can and limiting the number of strikeouts that I have.
Postseason.
6. What is the one sport you would play if you didn’t play softball?
Golf. (Still plays on the weekends, mostly when she is home.)
Golf.
7. What is your favorite food?
Mexican
Mexican.
8. What is the best movie you have ever seen?
Cars
Cars
9. What is the one place you would visit?
Japan
Japan
10. Who is the one person you would trade places with?
Carrie Underwood
I would say Carrie Underwood. She says that a lot.
Kaitlin rallied and got six of 10 questions right. Now, let’s see how Lauren does with Kaitlin’s answers.
Kaitlin Westfall (with Lauren Lackey’s answers below)
1. What is your favorite thing about playing softball at South Carolina?
I would say my favorite thing is probably my teammates. It is like a family, when I moved here I didn’t know anybody so it allowed me to have another family. I love the coaches. I guess just being able to play at a higher level so I am able to challenge myself and move on past the high school or travel ball level and actually challenge myself to become better.
I would say just the opportunity to play for a big school, and probably to be able to play at a place close enough to where her family is so that they can come and watch.
2. What is the one thing you can’t leave without on a road trip?
My blanket.
She has to have her blue blanket.
3. What is the best memory you have about playing softball at South Carolina?
Beating Alabama two out of three times. They are always the top in the SEC so we were a big underdog that game so we were able to come out and beat them twice which wasn’t expected at all.
When she hit her first home run, because she made a deal with her parents that if she hit a home run she would get a puppy.
4. What is the thing you have worked most on to prepare for this season?
I would say most I have worked on my hitting, specifically the low ball. I am still currently working on the outside pitch. I would just say being confident and comfortable with myself because it is my last year so being as comfortable as I can on the field.
Definitely her hitting. I know she spends a lot of time on her hitting, and she has improved a lot with her power.
5. What is your biggest goal for this season?
Postseason; SEC Tournament, World Series, all of it.
Oh, personal goals? : I would like to have double-digit home runs, so double what I had last year. Hit in the mid to high .300s. I would like to have no errors in the outfield.
To be an offensive threat. I think she is one of our better hitters on the team, and she definitely wants to shoot for like a high .300 average.
6. What is the one sport you would play if you didn’t play softball?
Basketball
Basketball.
7. What is your favorite food?
It is kind of a toss up. I am really big into Italian, but Mexican is close. I will say Italian right now but if you ask me in a month that may change.
Ribs.
Ribs, Lauren was right. She knows me better than she knows myself.
8. What is the best movie you have ever seen?
Taken Taken
9. What is the one place you would visit?
Australia
She has already been to like a billion places in Europe but I would say she would probably go there again.
10. Who is the one person you would trade places with?
A gymnast
She would trade places with anyone from Cupcake Wars or Cake Boss because she wants to own a bakery.
So Westfall got six of 10 right as well. That’s pretty solid on both sides!
