JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – South Carolina earned three wins and three runner-up finishes before weather forced the cancellation of half of the events in the final day of competition at the Best Western/UNF Invitational at Hodges Stadium, site of the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary championships.

The Gamecocks swept the men’s and women’s high jump and also earned a win in the women’s triple jump Saturday. David Wilkins won the men’s high jump at a season best mark of 6’9 ½ (2.07m), clearing two inches higher than the second-place finisher in the event. Jeannelle Scheper also out-jumped the women’s second-place finisher by two inches with her winning mark of 5’9 ¾ (1.77m). South Carolina’s final win came in the women’s triple jump with senior Radiance Basden getting a best mark of 40’3 ¼ (12.27m).

Both 4×100-meter relay teams placed second overall in the first running events of the day. The women’s team of Asia Delaney, Melekia Simpson, Chalese Davis and Tamera Harris ran a season-best time of 46.08, winning their heat but finishing second overall. The men’s team of Andre Carter, Chris Royster, Clayton Gravesande and Eric Winfrey also took second at 40.40.

Freshman Chalese Davis took second in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at 13.87 (+0.4). The Gamecocks also had a fourth-place finish from Erika Rucker in the 800-meter dash at 2:10.00, and a third-place finish from Nadonnia Rodriques in the 400-meter dash at 54.26. Rodriques’s run was the final event at the meet before the skies re-opened in Jacksonville, cancelling the remainder of the meet.

The Gamecocks return home for a mid-week meet at the Weems Baskin Track on Wednesday, April 4.
