Pitcher Michael Roth
On rally in eighth inning…
You are always hoping that something good happens when you are sitting on the bench, helpless. Adam Matthews had a great at-bat; (Brison) Celek had a great at-bat with that double down the line. And thank God that they didn’t talk to the right fielder from Francis Marion when they brought him in because that dropped. (It was a) good little rally.
On his current pitching slump…
Am I concerned? A little bit. Will I be concerned next Friday? No. This week I will try to figure out what is going on. Coach Meyers and I will sit down and talk. We’ll hit the next game going hard.
Outfielder Sean Sullivan
On the close win and the impact this win has…
It’s always great to win late. It’s emotional. It gets us on a high. All we are trying to do is win games and it gives us a good boost going into Saturday and hopefully wrap up the series.
Catcher Grayson Greiner
On strategy for home run in eighth…
Baseball is a contagious game and if you put together a quality at-bat, the guys behind you feed off of that. With two outs, I was just trying to get on base, keep the inning going. He had my number all night. With two outs and nobody on base, I figured he would attack me with a fastball and he did. I got it up in the air and it flew out.
Head Coach Ray Tanner
On rally in 8th inning and Greiner’s energy he brought with home run…
It did help, that’s for sure. (Chris) Stratton is real good. You are not going to get a whole lot against him. I know his pitch count was at a point, I thought they would go get (Caleb) Reed who is as good as there is in the conference. But the key is to get the tying run in the on deck circle; it changes the game a little bit. It’s nice having runners everywhere but once you get to a point where you have the tying run in the on deck circle, at least there is a little bit of life. All of them were with two outs, that’s what we ended up being, and low and behold we had some couple good at-bats, some good fortune and we were able to win the game late.
On using Sean Sullivan more…
He deserves more opportunities. I know he had to fight through that injury he has had. I don’t think he has felt good all the time. I think that lately he has gotten a little bit better. You can tell his batting practice is a little bit better now. He is an older guy and I didn’t think he could drop one down in the corner there but he understands with two strikes he has to take that kind of approach and you have to shoot the ball the other way. He did that on Wednesday night too, maybe he hit that one a little harder than this one, but he found a way to drop this one in. He had a pretty good hack on his first strike out there. He has been one of the most unselfish players in our dugout this entire season. He is a guy with experience and guys like that do it the right way and they deserve some good things to happen. I am tickled he was able to come up with the big hit there.
