JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – South Carolina (Men-NR, Women-NR) travels to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the 2012 NCAA Preliminary Round Championships held at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida. The three-day meet begins Thursday, May 24.

Live results and a live webcam will be provided throughout the three days of competition with links available at GamecocksOnline.com. A schedule of when each Gamecock athlete is competing can be found on the MEET NOTES.

The women’s team qualified 15 entries between 13 athletes, in addition to the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The men’s team qualified 12 entries between 10 athletes, in addition to both relays as well. Of the women’s individual bids, four are seniors, one is a junior, five are sophomores and three are freshmen. Of the men’s individual bids, three are seniors, one is a junior, three are sophomores and three are freshman.

For the third straight season, the country has been split into two regions – East and West – with the top 48 athletes in a region qualifying for the Preliminary Round. The East Preliminary will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., and the West Preliminary will be held in Austin, Texas. The top 12 finishers in an event at each regional preliminary will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships that will be held June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sophomore Vashti Bandy was added as an individual qualifier to the women’s 200-meter dash this week, earning her first career individual bid to the NCAA Championships.
