CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Senior Jaklin Alawi from the South Carolina women’s tennis team reached the semifinals in singles and doubles at the UVa Fall Classic on Friday at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.

Alawi, ranked No. 63 in the preseason ITA rankings, snagged straight set wins against Amanda Murray of Furman (6-1, 6-1) and Caryssa Peretz from Virginia (6-1, 6-0) to advance in the A-1 singles flight. In doubles, she teamed with sophomore Alex Martin and picked up an 8-1 victory over Rios and Yurtkuran from UNC Greensboro in flight B’s quarterfinals.

Katerina Popova captured a victory in the A-2 singles flight after losing her opening round match against Maci Epstein of UVa in three sets, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. She defeated Karen Forman of Wake Forest in the consolation quarterfinals by scores of 6-2, 6-3.

Also picking up a win in singles Friday was freshman Ximena Siles Luna. In a round-robin format in flight C, she registered a 6-1, 6-2 triumph versus Old Dominion’s Juliana Pires.

Play at the UVa Fall Classic runs through Sunday and begins each day at 9 a.m.
