TULSA, Okla. – South Carolina sophomore Andrew Adams dropped a tough three-set match in the first round of qualifying at the ITA Men’s All-American Monday at Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa. Adams is the first Gamecock to participate in the event since Tom Eklund in 2005.

In his first match of the season, Adams battled Oklahoma freshman Axel Alvarez through the first set, which was decided by a tiebreaker in the Sooner newcomer’s favor. South Carolina’s reigning ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year answered with a 6-3 second set, but could not stop the Spaniard with a wealth of international experience in the third set, falling 6-2.

South Carolina will be back in action on Oct. 18 at the ITA Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C.
