COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina freshman Kayla Lampe has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Lampe shares the weekly honor with Arkansas’ Andrina Schlaepfer, who finished 10th at the Chile Pepper Festival. It marks the second time this season Lampe has been named Freshman of the Week.

A native of Downingtown, Pa., Lampe led the Gamecocks to a third-place finish at the NCAA Preview Meet on Saturday as she claimed the individual title in the black unseeded 6K race with a personal record of 21:03.5. She finished the meet in dominant fashion, crossing the finish line 11.3 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Lampe’s time is the fastest 6K time by a freshman in the SEC this season and the 16th fastest overall.

Lampe and the Gamecocks will now turn their focus to preparing for the SEC Championship, which will be held on Oct. 26 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.
