Columbia, S.C. – Sophomore left-hander Jordan Montgomery hurled four scoreless innings with senior left-hander Adam Westmoreland adding 2.2 scoreless innings of work as well as Garnet evened its series against Black with a 2-0 win on Friday evening under the lights at Carolina Stadium in game two of the Garnet & Black World Series. The rubber game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Garnet went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning with an unearned run. Connor Bright singled to lead off the frame and stole second base. With two outs, Bright would score as Graham Saiko reached base on a throwing error by third baseman George Iskenderian.
Garnet would get some insurance in the sixth inning as Tanner English bunted for a base hit, stole second and third base and scored on freshman infielder D.C. Arendas’ RBI base hit.
Trailing by a pair of runs, Black looked to rally in the top of the seventh as they loaded the bases with a walk to Iskenderian, a base hit by Ryan Ripken and a walk to Chase Vergason. With two outs, sophomore right-hander Joel Seddon struck out Sean Sullivan to preserve the Garnet victory.
Montgomery allowed just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Garnet also had a good start from freshman left-hander Jack Wynkoop, who went five innings and allowed one run, unearned, on two hits with a strikeout.

South Carolina is the only SEC school to record 40 or more wins each season from 2000-present and the only SEC school to reach the NCAA Regional every season in the last 13 years.
