Nov. 7, 2012

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the University of South Carolina Women’s NCAA Outdoor Track and Field title that they secured in Baton Rouge, La., on June 1, 2002. The NCAA Championship was the school’s first-ever team title in any sport for the Gamecocks. Thirteen members of the squad combined to earn 128 All-American honors over the course of their collegiate careers.

In the weeks leading up to the All-Sports Reunion, GamecocksOnline.com will feature members of the 2002 NCAA Championship team.

South Carolina Memories
Favorite South Carolina Memory: I have a lot of memories: the team that we had, we were such a great team and Coach Frye, he was a great coach. Leaving South Carolina placing second at NCAA, running a time of 52.47 was a great achievement and memory to leave South Carolina with.

Why did you choose South Carolina? South Carolina was my last visit. When I came to South Carolina, and met the team, the girls and Coach Frye. I felt like I had a home. Everybody was very friendly and I was running amongst the best athletes in the country. It was a great place for me to excel in track and field.

What are you most looking forward to about coming back to Columbia? Just being back in South Carolina. I haven’t really been back since I left. I’m really excited about just being together with my old teammates and celebrating homecoming.

Shevon adds…
I’m a two time Olympian, I’ve been ranked top-10 in the world at my event and I truly feel that running at South Carolina has prepared me to run at such a high level.
