COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina freshman Kayla Lampe earned All-Region cross country honors after finishing eighth at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships last Friday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday.

Athletes of member schools that finished in the top 25 individually at one of nine regional sites earned the honor. Lampe completed the 6,000-meter course at McAlpine Park in a personal record of 20:04.43. Her eighth-place finish is the highest ever by a Gamecock freshman at the event.

As a team, the Gamecocks finished 10th at the meet, which is their best finish at the region championship since placing ninth in 1994.

A native of Downingtown, Pa., Lampe was South Carolina’s top finisher in every meet this season, including wins at the Gamecock Invitational and NCAA Pre-Nationals.

Lampe was one of 23 SEC women’s runners to earn the honor. The SEC tied for the second most honorees among all conferences.
