COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head softball coach Beverly Smith received letters of intent from six future student-athletes that will join the Gamecocks for the 2014 spring season. Joining the longest-standing program in the Southeastern Conference are the following: Nickie Blue (P/1B, Longmont, Col.), Mackenzie Moler (OF, Purcellville, Va.), Kaylea Snaer (C/1B, Rowland Heights, Calif.), Macey Webb (1B/C, Stanfield, N.C.), Taylor Williams (3B, Flatonia, Texas) and Victoria Williams (1B/3B/C, Williamston, S.C.).

“This 2013 class are the student-athletes that my staff and I have recruited since our arrival on campus in August 2010,” said Smith. “We have spent a lot of time watching them play and getting to know them personally. This is a very talented group of softball players. I am looking forward to the impact I believe this class will have on Carolina Softball. I am looking forward to the in-depth releases on these future Gamecock student-athletes so our fans can get to know them as well.”

The lone pitcher of the class, Nickie Blue punched out 287 batters in 149 innings this fall at Niwot High School, helping her team to the Colorado 4A state championship game. Also a strong hitter, she’s posted better than .500 batting averages and .750 slugging percentages in each of the last three seasons.

An outfielder from northern Virginia, Moler helped her Woodgrove team to an AA state title in 2012. A speedster, Moler’s stolen 43 bases the last two years and posted batting averages of .442 and .436 for coach Joe Spicer.

From the greater Los Angeles area, Kaylea Snaer earned All-California Interscholastic League Division 2 honors in 2012. Hitting 16 home runs as a junior, Snaer made the MaxPreps All-America Second Team. She’s also been a part of three national champions on the travel ball circuit with the Southern Cal Athletics.

Webb played at West Stanly High School in Oakboro, N.C., earning all-state honors on three occasions thus far. The 5-6 infielder led her team in batting average and on-base percentage from 2009-11.

Taylor Williams, a Texas native, helped her Flatonia team to the 1A state title in 2012, hitting .449 with eight homers and 52 RBI while drawing 40 walks. She also stole 14 bases in 15 tries. She garnered 2012 MaxPreps first-team Small Schools All-America honors.

A second-team MaxPreps Small Schools All-American in 2012, Victoria Williams hails from Williamston, S.C. The South Carolina 2A Player of the Year by the High School Sports Report (HSSR), Williams hit 10 homers and drove in 47 runs to help Palmetto High School claim the state title.

South Carolina opens its new stadium at Beckham Field in the spring of 2013 on the same site the team has played the past 30 years. The full schedule will be released at a later date.
