COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina will host a variety of events to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day at its women’s basketball game on Sun., Feb. 3, at Colonial Life Arena. The No. 15/13 Gamecocks will take on Auburn at 3 p.m. with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. Youth 17 and under will be admitted free to the game.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m., the concourse will be lined with booths of various University of South Carolina clubs, organizations and varsity women’s teams. Attendees include University First Lady Mrs. Patricia Pastides, the volleyball, softball, track and field and diving teams, Academy Sports, the Gamecock Club and Girls on the Run. Visitors to each booth will be able to participate in a type of physical activity or walk away with information about a healthy lifestyle.
In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Title IX legislation, fans will also receive commemorative posters about the legislation that opened opportunities for girls and women in sports across the country. The Gamecocks also will honor the participants and winners of the second segment of the Read with the Gamecocks program at halftime.
