South Carolina was selected to finish in third place in the Eastern Division in the 2013 SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Both the Gamecocks and Kentucky shared a tie for third place in the poll. The Gamecocks won the SEC East in 2012 and tied for first place and the SEC championship in 2011. Carolina has finished in the top three places of the SEC Eastern Division 16 of 21 seasons since joining the league. The 2013 season begins on Friday, February 15 as the Gamecocks host a three-game series with Liberty at Carolina Stadium.
Arkansas is the choice to win the 2013 SEC championship with Vanderbilt the choice to win the East. In addition to picking a preseason champion, the head coaches voted a predicted order of finish in the SEC Eastern and Western Divisions. Points were compiled on a 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
