Head Coach Chad Holbrook
Opening Statement…
I’m thrilled to get a win on a blustery day, that was kind of cold and damp. I thought our kids played well and played hard. Albany played well and hard too. I don’t think Jordan Montgomery had his best stuff by any stretch, but he battled and competed. He came back from a 3-0 count with the bases loaded and got a big out, then LB Dantzler came back in the sixth with a big three-run homerun. We played better defense today. Curt Britt was special for a freshman in his first outing, which was great to see. I think collectively we had a better plate approach. I felt good about the way we played both offensively and defensively.

On importance of outs with runners in scoring position…
It’s always big to get outs when runners are in scoring position. Jordan didn’t throw strike one a lot today. His first pitches weren’t over the plate. I have to give Albany credit for not chasing any pitches that were out of the zone. They had a good plan against him.

On LB Dantzler batting well…
LB is doing well right now. He feels good at the plate and is very confident. He is putting good swings on it, even the balls he fouls back, I think he is just missing them. He is looking at it well and swinging aggressively. He is a senior and we needed him to get off to this type of start.

On having a career high day…
I was just seeing it well and again didn’t have a very good batting practice but I felt good at the plate. You can’t do any of that if my teammates aren’t on base, so all the credit goes to them.

On his homerun today…
It was a breaking ball, but I was sitting fastball. I was just looking to get something out over the plate that I could drive for a sacrifice fly. I was able to keep my hands inside, and it carried out.

On being ready for today…
Last weekend I had one at bat and I guess I got my nerves out looking at three straight strikes, but coming out tonight the nerves weren’t there and it wasn’t a big factor. I just went out and pitched.

On his performance today…
I felt pretty good just going out and pounding the strike zone and working ahead. That was my main goal. In the last inning, I ran into a little bit of adversity but it was a chilly night.

On batting leadoff…
Coach Holbrook talked to me a little bit and said that there was a chance that it could happen. He wants me to go up there and take as many pitches as possible and try to see what the pitcher has so everyone else behind me can come up and hit. I’m slowly getting used to hitting leadoff, but I’m just up there trying to help the team out.
