Head coach Chad Holbrook
Opening Statement…
“First of all I’m very pleased with my teams’ effort. They were very focused today and I thought we played well. We pitched well and it was great to see Jack get his first start. I thought he threw strikes, no walks and for a young guy he’s advanced beyond his years. He has a chance to be a special pitcher for us, do it’s good to see him get out of the gate and throw the ball well against a decent hitting team. Furman can swing the bat, they came in hitting .299. [Will] Muzikahas hurt us for years, I think he had a home run last year against us in Greenville. They’ve got some guys that you have t to be real careful with and how you pitch to them. I was really pleased with the way Jack [Wynkoop] and Evan [Beal] threw. Joel [Seddon] had some tough luck, but that’s ok we’ll get him back out there. I thought the balls coming out of his hands were much better today than when he threw against Liberty. Tyler [Webb] came in and did what Tyler does. A great win for us and I thought we had some good at-bats. We played great defense, Chase Vergason was special at third base and DC [Arendas] came in and made some nice plays. That’s the staple of our program, we try to pitch and play defense, and that’s what we did today.”

Jack Wynkoop
On his first start as a Gamecock…
“It was pretty good to get my first start today. I was happy that the coaches wanted to give me the ball. I didn’t really get nervous, maybe a little bit in the locker room before, but once I got out there it just seemed like normal baseball. I think I got most of my nerves out against Liberty.”

Evan Beal
On settling in after a tough fall…
“I was just thinking too much, pressing and trying to reach outside my limits a little. I talked to Coach [Meyers] about going out and slowing my thoughts down, trusting my stuff really, and let my stuff do its thing. Try not to really pressure myself into any throwing outside my limits.”

Max Schrock
On playing short stop and second base…
“Coach Holbrook texted me today and said `you’re going to need to pick-up Joey [Pankake] today, because of his hip not feeling great.’ And I said. `Yes sir.’ I’ll play wherever they want me to play. I feel like I can play just as well at shortstop as I can second base. I struggled with a few throws today, I haven’t been taking many throws in practice, but I feel like if I take some more, I will be alright.”
