STATESBORO, Ga. – The South Carolina Gamecocks scored eight times in the first three innings and coasted to a 12-3 win over Kennesaw State in a game shortened to five innings on Saturday afternoon in Statesboro, Ga.
Chelsea Hawkins went 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs (her team-leading fourth and fifth of the season), three runs scored and four RBI to pace the Gamecocks’ 12-hit attack. Alaynie Page went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI in the contest.
The Gamecocks (10-3) need just two batters to get on the board in the first. After Sammy Garcia singled to extend her hitting streak to 13 games, Page homered down the left field line.
Carolina came back with four in the second, keyed by Olivia Lawrence’s two-run shot over the right-centerfield fence, her second round tripper of the day and her third of the season.
Hawkins belted a two-run blast in the third, then added another two-run shot in a four-run fifth.
Katelynn Howser (2-0) went the distance for the win, scattering seven hits and three runs over 5.0 innings of work.
