The athletics department and student-athletes participated in a campus-wide initiative called Thank Alumni for Giving (TAG) Day Wednesday. There are two initiatives, one in the fall and one in the spring, organized by the University of South Carolina Donor Relations/Annual Giving office. Coordinated efforts took place all over campus from the Thomas Cooper Library to Swearingen Engineering Center to have South Carolina students sign thank you cards to be sent to donors.

The athletics department relies heavily on Gamecock Club donors for the support of student-athletes’ scholarships. Participating in TAG Day was one way for student-athletes and the department to express their gratitude. The athletics department’s efforts were led by Kendall Belk, Coordinator of Stewardship and Development Communications, and were headquartered in the Dodie Anderson Academic Center, where our student-athletes spend much of their study time and eat their meals. Athletics Director Ray Tanner and Cocky even stopped by to lend their support.

“Gamecock Club support for student-athletes means their scholarship money and providing them with a great education and experience at South Carolina,” said Belk. “We let them know the cards are going to Gamecock Club members – the folks who are not only at the games and events during the year, but they are contributing financially for student-athletes’ scholarships.”

Belk shared that student-athletes from a wide range of sports participated in the event – football, track & field, men’s and women’s soccer, and more. Coaches from men’s and women’s golf each had members of their teams write several cards each. At the end of the event, we hope to have a couple hundred signed cards to send to various donors.

Thank you to the thousands of Gamecock fans who support South Carolina Athletics through donating to the Gamecock Club!
