BATON ROUGE, La. – Two two-run homers from LSU’s Tammy Wray led the No. 13/12 Tigers (27-5, 7-1 SEC) to a 6-0 win over South Carolina (17-11, 0-5 SEC) on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Park.
Wray hit the first one in the fourth with one out and Sandra Simmons on first after a single, giving LSU the 2-0 lead. The second one wrapped the scoring for the Tigers in the fifth, plating Allison Falcon after she had a single. Earlier in the fifth, Bianka Bell had a two-run blast to right center which also scored Jacee Blades after she led off the inning with an infield single.
LSU starter Ashley Czechner (7-0) tossed a one-hit shutout, fanning five and walking one. Gamecock freshman Katie Marks (5-6) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on five hits and three walks in four-plus innings of work.
South Carolina junior second baseman Dana Hathorn reached base all three times, getting the lone Gamecock hit and walk while also taking her 11th hit-by-pitch of the year. That one tied her for the career record at South Carolina with Kristin Hall, who was hit 20 times in her four-year career. Hathorn also stole a base in the seventh.
Jacee Blades went 3-for-4 with a double for the Tigers, scoring once. Wray had the two homers and four RBI, while Bell had a homer and two runs driven in.
The Gamecocks and Tigers match up again on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CDT at Tiger Park.
