Player Quotes

2B Max Schrock
On facing Vanderbilt starting pitcher Tyler Beede…
He had a great change up. It was probably the best that I’ve ever seen. He also located really well throughout the game and was really sharp.

On Vanderbilt’s pitching depth…
They definitely have great depth. The guy they brought out of the bullpen, Carson Fulmer, he had great stuff, threw hard, and located pretty well too.

On not being able to capitalize with runners in scoring position…
It was tough when you get runners in scoring position and can’t score. You have to be able to bounce back. We were able to score two, but it just wasn’t quite enough today.

LHP Jordan Montgomery
On today’s performance…
I felt pretty good out there. I just made a few mistakes. They did a good job and made me pay for them.

Head Coach Chad Holbrook Quotes

Opening Statement…
The story of the game was Tyler Beede. He was terrific and he had big league stuff. There is a reason why he is going to be the first or second pick in next years draft. He was as advertised and he overpowered was for six plus innings. We were able to get a couple of hits off of him in the seventh and get some runs. He’s an incredible talent and they followed him up with Carson Fulmer who is really good too. They threw two terrific arms at us today and they did enough offensively to beat us. I don’t think Jordan Montgomery had his best stuff and you have to be sharp as a tack when you play those guys in all facets of the game. We weren’t sharp as a tack at the beginning of the game, pitching wise. Congratulations to Vanderbilt. You can definitely see why they have a special team.

On the bullpen performance this weekend…
The one good thing about these two loses, if there is a good thing about them, is that the guys in the bullpen have thrown pretty well. We threw good yesterday and Patrick (Sullivan), Vince (Fiori), and Evan (Beal) threw well today. What they have done is really encouraging and we’re going to keep putting them back out there. They came in and were pitching from behind and it is easier to pitch from behind because the pressure isn’t as much. Those kids gave us a chance to win the game and that’s all you can ask for. That’s one of the positives that we can take away from these last two games.

On Vanderbilt as a team…
I said on Thursday that I can’t find a weakness in their team. Obviously, they have good power arm. They’re great on Friday with (Kevin) Ziomek and they’re great on Saturday with (Tyler) Beede. Beede is now 12-0 in 12 appearances and that’s very impressive. Fulmer and Miller are really good out of the bullpen as well. They’re a complete team. They can play defense, they can run, steal bases, bang some balls out of the park, so if you find a weakness, throw it my way. You don’t do something in this league through 23 games that’s never been done before and not be a complete team. My hats off to those guys, they’re awfully good.
