EUGENE, Ore. – The Gamecocks pushed 10 of their 20 NCAA East Preliminary bids through to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The action is scheduled for Wed., June 5 – Sat., June 8 at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon’s campus. The women’s 4×100-meter relay opens the meet at 7 p.m. ET and five other individuals start their week in Eugene on Wednesday.

The No. 22 South Carolina women’s squad secured nine bids for NCAA Finals, the most for the program since 2006 when the Gamecocks collected a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Half of the eight individuals from the women’s team are ranked in the NCAA top 15 entering the final weekend of competition – junior Jeannelle Scheper (high jump-No. 3), senior Kierre Beckles (100mH-No. 11), sophomore Erika Rucker (400m-No. 12), freshman Tyler Brockington (400mH-No. 14). A pair of field athletes in juniors Petra Olsen (pole vault) and Breanna Radford (shot put) are also ranked in the top 25 this season at No. 23 and No. 24, respectively. The Gamecocks nabbed two of the 12 400-meter hurdle spots at the East Prelims in Brockington and sophomore Tamera Harris (No. 31). Sophomore Kayla Lampe is just the second in Gamecock history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run (All-American Tanya Povey, 1998). The lone South Carolina relay making the trip to Eugene is the women’s 4×100-meter relay. The quartet boasts a season-best 44.62 which they ran at the East Prelims. Junior Chris Royster is the only Gamecock male to qualify for the NCAA Championships, doing so in the 100-meter dash. The two-time All-American is making his individual NCAA debut after running on relays the last two seasons.
