CHARLESTON, S.C. — South Carolina incoming freshman Katelyn Dambaugh won the final two holes to defeat Mariel Galdiano, 2 up, in the opening round of match play on Wednesday at the 113th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston.

With the match all square through 16 holes, Dambaugh birdied the 156-yard, par-3 17th to build a 1 up advantage with one hole to play. Galdiano went on to bogey the 18th, and Dambaugh made par to win the hole and the match.

A native of Goose Creek, S.C., Dambaugh advances to the round of 32 with the win and will face Alison Lee of Valencia, Calif., on Thursday. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:10 a.m. The winner will play in the round of 16 on Thursday afternoon. Live results will be available at USGA.org.
