COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina cross country team put on a strong showing in its second race of the year, taking first place in both the team and individual results.
Sophomore Anna Todd took first place with a time 19:04.26. Todd was towards the front of the pack throughout the race and pushed ahead just before crossing the finishing line to lead the Gamecocks to victory.
Five other Gamecocks placed in the top 10, including a fifth-place finish from sophomore Alex Mullin with a time of 19:48.58. Freshman Sarah Falta came in next clocking 19:58.52 and taking sixth. Brittany Day, also a freshman, claimed eighth place (20:18.35) and sophomores Courtney Swink (20:21.94) and Lannon McCoy (20:35.31) took ninth, and tenth place, respectively.
Other South Carolina finishers include junior Sarah Pelligrini (14th, 21:04.31) and sophomore Kaleigh Higgins (18th, 21:50.15).
The Gamecocks will travel to Gainesville, Fla. next Saturday for the Mountain Dew Invitational.
