Women’s Results | Men’s Results

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina claimed the team title to close out its home schedule at the Gamecock Invitational #2, held at Hilton Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The host Gamecocks had 26 points, topping Spartanburg Methodist’s 54. Gardner-Webb (86) finished third, topping Benedict, Claflin and Paine. South Carolina won its second home meet of the year, after taking the first Gamecock Invitational in the first week of September.

A trio of sophomores placed in the top five to lead the Gamecocks in the two-mile event. Brandy Wybersky finished second with her time of 11:54.03, while Allie Whitley (12:05.96) and Alex Mullin (12:11.33) trailed close behind. Freshmen Sarah Falta (6th, 12:13.47) and Brittany Day (9th, 12:28.95) closed out the Gamecock scoring.

Sophomore Ashley Miller ranked 10th overall at 12:31.75, while junior Sarah Pellegrini finished 14th with a time of 13:06.67. Running their first cross country meets, Erika Rucker (13:24.67) and Tyler Brockington (14:56.53) both finished in the top 25.

Spartanburg Methodist’s Betsy Douglas won the women’s race in 11:42.50. In the men’s division, Gardner-Webb’s Michael McClay took the title with his two-mile time of 9:59.18, leading the Bulldogs to the team win over Charleston Southern.

The Gamecocks take on a regional field on Fri., Oct. 11 in the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
