DOVER, Del. – No. 3 South Carolina improved to 4-0 on Saturday, as the Gamecocks defeated Southern Methodist, 12-4, at the Gambler’s Choice Equestrian Center. Senior Johnna Letchworth won her 18th career MVP on Saturday, and she passes Kimberly McCormack (2009-2013) for the most career MVP’s in team history.

The hunt seat and western teams both won, 6-2.

In equitation on the flat, the Gamecocks got wins from Samantha Kraus, Katherine Schmidt, and Samantha Smith. Smith won her second MVP of the weekend, as she cruised to a 82-79 victory over Greer Hindle.

In equitation over fences, both Smith and Schmidt won their points, giving the duo a perfect 2-0 record for the day. Hunt seat captain Amber Henter won her piont, 76-68.

In horsemanship, seniors Alison Ceresani and Johnna Letchworth both won their points, along with junior Sam Chiodo, who was named MVP after her 73.5-72 victory over Morgan Redwine.

In reining, Letchworth won her point, 68.5-65, earning the senior MVP honors for the fourth time this season. Juniors Cody McMillion and Layla Choate also won their points.

The Gamecocks return to action on Friday, when South Carolina hosts No. 1 Georgia at 2 p.m. in Blythewood.
