COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team hosts a fall tournament this weekend, bringing in North Carolina, Presbyterian, Lander and Spartanburg Methodist to play at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Friday’s lone game pits the Tar Heels against the Gamecocks at 7 p.m., with admission free for all fans during the fall exhibitions.

The border rivals clash twice on the weekend, following up Friday’s meeting with a 12 noon showdown on Saturday. South Carolina takes on Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday at 2 p.m. to finish its day of work. On Sunday, the Gamecocks face Lander, coached by former Gamecock All-American Tina Plew Whitlock, at 2 p.m. and Presbyterian at 4 p.m.

The Gamecocks went 2-0 in their first weekend of play, sweeping a doubleheader from Charleston Southern by a pair of 2-1 scores. Freshman Nickie Blue led the way with both wins in the circle, while the middle of South Carolina’s lineup had all the hits, led by senior Ashlyn Masters’ three.

South Carolina will have one more home appearance on Mon., Oct. 28, and full details for this season ticket-purchasing event will be released in the coming days.

Admission will be free to all of the games of the weekend at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field, and the concession stand will be open for those in attendance. Updates will come on the team’s Twitter account, @GamecockSoftbll. The full weekend schedule follows below.
