COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina head coach Boo Major announced on Friday the signing of Nora Jodrey (Besthesda, Md./Walt Whitman) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Gamecock equestrian program for the 2014-2015 season. Jodrey is a hunt seat rider and will be able to compete in both equitation on the flat and equitation over fences.

“Nora is a great girl and we’re really excited that she’ll be joining us next season,” Major said. “She has a lot of equitation experience and she’s also gotten some good mileage riding hunters. We like the riders that have done both the equitation and the hunters because they usually tend to have a really good feel when they’re riding.”

Jodrey trains with Ginny Edwards at Hidden Hollow.

Last year, Jodrey won the Bryan Trophy Competition at the Deep Run Horse Show in Richmond, Va. She also was the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Zone 3 Equitation Finals winner. Jodrey was the Maryland Horse Shows Association Hunt Seat Medal Finals winner in 2013, and she also finished 10th at the North American Equitation Championship. She qualified for the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Medal Finals, Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Equitation Finals, and the ASPCA Maclay Finals after finishing seventh at the Maclay Regionals.

A senior at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Md., Jodrey has been on the school’s honor roll all four years.

Her parents are Darrel and Don Jodrey, and she has a sibling, Liam.

While at South Carolina, Jodrey plans to be a business major in the Darla Moore School of Business. She chose South Carolina over Auburn University and the University of Georgia.
