COLUMBIA, S.C. — Gamecock women’s tennis rookie Brigit Folland has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Folland compiled a 3-0 record in singles last week in a trio of 7-0 Carolina wins against Furman, Charleston Southern and Davidson. Folland played the No. 3 singles spot versus Furman and Charleston Southern, dropping just five games combined in her singles contests while also providing the clinching point against CSU. She moved to the No. 2 singles position, the highest she has played this year, for the Davidson contest and surrendered just one game in her straight set victory.

The Bristol, United Kingdom, native also forged a 3-0 record in doubles play alongside Katerina Popova. The duo played the No. 2 position in all three matches and gave up just three games combined in their three triumphs. Folland and Popova won the deciding doubles match against Davidson as well.

Folland, who is currently ranked No. 112 in the nation in singles, is tied for the team lead in singles victories this year with a 12-7 record. She is 4-2 in dual matches playing on courts two and three. Folland is second on the team for individual doubles victories with an 11-4 mark.
