COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomore left-hander Jack Wynkoop pitched eight scoreless innings with just four hits allowed and combined with Taylor Widener for a six-hit shutout as top ranked South Carolina defeated Brown 8-0 to sweep a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks recorded a pair of shutouts in the doubleheader with a 13-0 win in the first game. South Carolina is now 14-0 on the year with Brown 0-2 for the season. Wynkoop did not walk a batter and struck out five in the contest. He tied his career-high for innings pitched as he also had eight last season in a win vs. Kentucky. Wynkoop with the win improves to 4-0 on the year. Widener struck out three batters in a scoreless ninth inning. Brown starter Dave St. Lawrence suffered the loss and is 0-1 on the year. He allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits with five walks and a strikeout in seven innings pitched.

Scoreless through three innings, South Carolina scored four runs in the middle innings. DC Arendas broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run, his second homer of the season for the Gamecocks. Carolina increased the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning on a two-run triple by Marcus Mooney. After Grayson Greiner led off the frame with a single and Tanner English drew a two-out walk, Mooney roped his first career triple in a Gamecock uniform on a 1-1 pitch to score both runners. The lead extended to 4-0 in the sixth as Joey Pankake led off with a double and scored on Connor Bright’s one-out sacrifice fly to right field.

The Gamecocks batted around in the bottom of the eighth to break ahead 8-0. A pair of two-out singles off the bat of Tanner English and Marcus Mooney scored four runs. Mooney went 2-for-5 with a season-high four RBI. English scored two runs as did Grayson Greiner, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Arendas finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI also.

South Carolina has seven shutout wins in 14 victories this season.
