HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. –

The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 12-over 296 on Saturday at Long Cove Club and is currently in third place after the two rounds of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

Duke remains in first place with a two-round score of 575 (+7). The Blue Devils shot a 7-over 291 in the second round and currently hold an eight-stroke lead over second place Vanderbilt. The Commodores fired a second-round 290, giving them a score of 583 (+15). South Carolina rounds out the top-three with a score of 590 (+22), just seven strokes behind the commodores.

Junior Justine Dreher carded the low round for the Gamecocks with an even-par 71. Dreher climbed 29 spots on the leaderboard and is currently tied for 16th place with a score of 147 (+5).

Katelyn Dambaugh shot a 2-over 73, giving the freshman a two-round score of 144 (+2) and putting her in a tie for eighth place. Dambaugh recorded an eagle on the No. 6 hole, one of only two in the tournament thus far.

Senior Samantha Swinehart and sophomore Sarah Schmelzel both carded a 5-over 76 in the second round. Swinehart is currently tied for 23rd place with a score of 148 (+6) and Schmelzel finished the day tied for 40th place with a score of 151 (+9).

Jia Xin Yang shot a 4-over 75, which gives the freshman a two-round score of 152 (+10). Yang tallied three birdies in the second round and is currently tied for 52nd place.

Senior Suzie Lee and sophomore Mary Fran Hillow, both competing in the tournament as individuals, shot second rounds of 76 and 80, respectively. With a total score of 153 (+11), Lee is currently tied for 52nd place while Hillow is tied for 85th place with a total score of 163 (+21).

Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow remains at the top of the individual leaderboard after carding a 1-over 72 in the second round. Meadow has a total score of 139 (-3), just one stroke ahead of Caroline Nistrup of LSU and Celine Boutier of Duke, who are currently tied for second place, each with a two-round score of 140 (-2). Yu Liu of Duke concluded the day in fourth place with a score of 141 (-1).
