March 17, 2014
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior high jumper Jeannelle Scheper has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Scheper captured her second-straight NCAA silver medal over the weekend at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The Gamecock cleared three bars on the first attempt after entering the competition and ultimately recorded a height of 6′ 1?2″ (1.84m).
The St. Lucia native was also named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year last week after setting or matching her own meet or facility record in five indoor competitions before the NCAA Championships.
In the 2012 indoor season, Scheper became the first male or female high jumper in school history to earn a bid to an NCAA championship event and received the first high jump All-America certificate in South Carolina history. She has qualified for every NCAA indoor and outdoor championship since and is now a five-time high jump All-American. She also won the first SEC high jump championship in school history at the 2013 SEC Indoor Championships and took home silver at the 2014 SEC Indoor Championships.
