Gamecocks Open Shamrock Invite with Men's Hammer Throw

CONWAY, S.C. – On Thursday, South Carolina completed its first event of the 2014 outdoor track and field season at Coastal Carolina’s Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. A pair of South Carolina athletes collected top-15 finishes in the men’s hammer throw.
Redshirt juniors Andrew Seay and Walker Selby finished 11th and 15th, respectively. Seay’s first throw delivered a mark of 167′ 4″ (51.01m) while Selby’s mark of 161′ 4″ (49.17m) came on his second attempt.
Tomorrow, the Gamecocks begin the day on the track with the 1,500-meter run at 10 a.m. The women’s hammer throw is the first field event of the day, beginning at 1 p.m., and the day closes at approximately 7:15 p.m. with the 5,000-meter run. The Shamrock Invitational concludes after a full day on Saturday.
