Precious Holmes Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina sprinter Precious Holmes has been named SEC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week after her impressive performance at the Shamrock Invitational over the weekend.
Holmes was a part of three wins and meet records at the Gamecocks’ 2014 outdoor opener at Coastal Carolina. In the 400-meter dash, her signature individual event, Holmes posted a 52.89 for the win. The mark is the currently the second fastest in the NCAA and tops the conference.
The Gamecock also helped her team to wins in the 4×200-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay. South Carolina’s 4×4 team clocked in at 3:36.11 and is the fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Holmes scored 30 of South Carolina’s 184 points for the win and helped the team capture the Mayor’s Cup as the meet’s highest-scoring relay team.
This is the second SEC Freshman of the Week honor for Holmes after also earning the nod for her performance at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in February.
South Carolina continues outdoor competition this weekend with one of its two home meets. The 21st annual Weems Baskin Invitational is set for March 28-29.
