Gamecocks Close Out FSU Invitational with 3-2 Loss to LSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The South Carolina sand volleyball team wrapped dual play at the FSU Invitational on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to LSU at the FSU Sand Volleyball Complex.
The Gamecocks are now 4-9 on the season with the loss. With dual play over, South Carolina’s pairs will play in a pairs tournament on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. against pairs from Florida State, Jacksonville, and LSU.
South Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the dual as Erin Neuenfeldt and KoKo Atoa-Williams defeated LSU’s Emma Hiller and Briana Holman in straight sets, 21-10 and 21-19.
The Tigers then took the point on court two to tie the dual at 1-1. The Gamecocks’ pair of Mikaela Christiaansen and Sarah Blomgren lost to LSU’s Kaitlin Hatcher and Helen Boyle in two sets, 21-10 and 21-19.
The Gamecocks fell behind 2-1 shortly after, as Paige Wheeler and Megan Kent fell on court No. 1 to LSU’s Meghan Mannari and Katie Lindelow, 23-21 and 21-16.
LSU then clinched the win with a two-set victory on court No. 3. South Carolina’s Jordan Loney and Jade Vitt fell to Victoria Boraski and Cati Leak by the scores of 21-15 and 21-17.
South Carolina’s No. 5 pair of Chynna Ratner and Litsa Darby closed out the dual with a 2-1 win over LSU’s Malorie pardo and Mimi Eugene by the scores of 17-21, 21-18 and 15-13.
Sunday’s pairs tournament will be split into a Gold and a Silver Division. South Carolina’s top two pairs will play in a double elimination bracket in the Gold Division, while it’s No. 3, 4 and 5 pairs will play in a single elimination bracket in the Silver Division.
