Kaleb Zuidema Earns SEC Men's Freshman of the Week Honors

April 29, 2014

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina javelin thrower Kaleb Zuidema has been named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week after his win at the 120th Penn Relays over the weekend.

Zuidema captured the first Penn Relays javelin championship in school history with a personal best throw of 228’6″ (69.66m), a mark that moved him from fifth to third in program history. The mark would have ranked third in the championship flight at the prestigious event.

Zuidema owns the top freshman javelin mark in the SEC (fifth overall) and ranks in the top-20 nationally. He has won two-straight events and is the only freshman to rank in the nation’s top 28.

The Gamecocks are off this weekend to focus on final exams. South Carolina returns to action on Sun., May 11, at N.C. A&T for a tune-up before the 2014 SEC Outdoor Championships at the University of Kentucky that begin on May 15.
