Grayson Greiner Named to Capital One Academic All-District 4 Baseball Team

May 1, 2014

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior catcher Grayson Greiner earned placement on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District 4 Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday.

Greiner leads the Gamecocks with five home runs, 42 RBI and a .490 slugging percentage while also standing second with his .399 on-base percentage and nine doubles. The Columbia, S.C., native has been named SEC Player of the Week once this season and is on two national award watch lists, the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award for the country’s top player and the Johnny Bench Award for the nation’s top catcher. Last season, he earned a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team and second-team All-SEC honors.

It’s the fourth-straight season a Gamecock baseball student-athlete has made the all-district listing, following LB Dantzler last season and Michael Roth in 2011 and 2012. On Thurs., May 22, Greiner finds out if he joins those two as Academic All-America winners as well.

Four Florida State players made the list: pitchers Gage Smith and Mike Compton as well as outfielders DJ Stewart and Josh Delph. Mercer’s Michael Massi and Derrick Workman also garnered recognition, while Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Stetson and Troy all joined South Carolina with one honoree.

The Gamecocks play at Georgia this weekend in a three-game series.
