ATHENS, Ga. — Dominika Kanakova and Elixane Lechemia from the South Carolina women’s tennis team lost in the opening round of the 32-team NCAA Doubles Championship on Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The 26th-ranked Kanakova and Lechemia lost 6-1, 6-0 to No. 5 Beatrice Capra and Hanna Mar of Duke to finish the season with a 10-6 record. For Kanakova, a senior, she became the first Gamecock in over a decade to compete in back-to-back NCAA Doubles Championships. It was the first appearance in an NCAA individual tournament for Lechemia, who will be a senior next season.

Final rankings for the season will be released May 27 (team) and June 4 (singles/doubles).
