COLUMBIA, S.C. — Fourth-seeded Campbell scored three runs in the top of the 12th inning on its way to claiming a 4-1 victory over third-seeded Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Columbia Regional at Carolina Stadium.

The win is the Camels’ (41-20) first NCAA Tournament victory in program history. Campbell was 0-3 all-time heading into Saturday’s matchup. The Camels advance to an elimination game on Sunday and will face the loser of the South Carolina-Maryland game at 1 p.m.

With the loss, Old Dominion wraps up its season with a 36-26 record.

Campbell scored a run in the second inning, and the Monarchs tied the game with a run in the fourth before the teams battled through seven scoreless innings. The Camels ended the scoring drought in the 12th, as Elijah Trail delivered a run-scoring single with the bases loaded and no outs. Two batters later, Campbell pushed across two more runs, as Brooks Borders drove home a run with a single to right field and Will Albertson scored on a throwing error by the right fielder to give the Camels a 4-1 advantage.

Reliever Ryan Thompson then sealed the win for the Camels by retiring the side in the bottom of the 12th, including a strikeout of Old Dominion’s Mike Perez to end the game. Thompson (7-2) earned the win after working five scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out five.

The Camels tallied seven hits on the afternoon, including two hits and a RBI from Borders. Old Dominion finished with six hits, with shortstop Tyler Urps leading the way with two hits.

Monarch reliever Conner Overton (3-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs in 2/3 of an inning of work.

Campbell took a 1-0 lead in the first. Designated hitter Matt Parrish led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Albertson. Seth LaRue then singled up the middle, driving home Parrish for the first run of the game.

Old Dominion tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Third baseman P.J. Higgins drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a single to right field by Josiah Burney and scored when Taylor Ostrich grounded into a 6-3 double play.

The teams were unable to manufacture any offense for the next seven innings before Campbell scored three in the 12th to avoid elimination.
