NeSmith, Murphy Finish in Top 10 at Palmetto Amateur

AIKEN, S.C. — South Carolina rising junior Matt NeSmith and senior Will Murphy claimed top-10 finishes at the 39th Palmetto Amateur on Saturday at the historic Palmetto Golf Club.

NeSmith finished tied for third with a 72-hole total of 278 (-2), while Murphy tied for sixth with a total of 280 (E). Gamecock senior Blaine Woodruff and sophomore Ben Dietrich also played in the amateur, finishing tied for 27th (288) and tied for 46th (294), respectively.

A native of North Augusta, S.C., NeSmith carded rounds of 72 (+2), 68 (-2), 68 (-2) and 70 (E).

Murphy, who earned All-America honors with a tie for 15th finish at the NCAA Championship last week, posted rounds of 70 (E), 69 (-1), 72 (+2) and 69 (-1).

Woodruff turned in rounds of 71 (+1), 74 (+4), 74 (+4) and 69 (-1), while Dietrich shot rounds of 66 (-4), 72 (+2), 79 (+9) and 77 (+7).
